Road construction projects are getting back underway across the Lansing area and Michigan following the Labor Day weekend.

Around 60% of construction projects that were paused Friday to help ease holiday traffic resumed Monday. Two new projects also began in Clinton County, including the closure of the US-127 Business Route between Centerline and Taft roads in St. Johns for culvert replacement work. The project is expected to continue until November.

Drivers on I-69 can also expect single-lane closures in both directions between US-127 and the Shiawassee County line. The work involves concrete patching and is also expected to be completed in November.

Meanwhile, Potterville Public Schools welcomed students back as the district followed its traditional post-Labor Day start to the new school year. Most other major school districts across the region began classes last month.

Two Hospitalized After Lansing East-Side Crash

Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Lansing's east side Sunday night.

Police said the crash happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Saginaw and Marshall streets. Authorities said the injuries were not considered life-threatening, and drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors.

Authorities Provide Updates on Holiday Weekend Boating Incidents

Authorities also released updates on two boating incidents that occurred over the Labor Day weekend.

In Ottawa County, two people were hospitalized after a boat overturned Sunday night on Lake Macatawa.

Meanwhile, authorities in Grosse Pointe suspended their search for a 74-year-old man who fell overboard Saturday night in Lake St. Clair.

New Polling Highlights Michigan Political Races

With 56 days remaining until Election Day, new polling is offering a look at where Michigan's major political campaigns stand heading into the fall election season.

The most recent EPIC-MRA poll, conducted Aug. 22 through Aug. 28, showed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed leading former Republican Congressman Mike Rogers 47% to 43%, with a four-point margin of error.

A RealClearPolling average covering polling through Aug. 28 showed El-Sayed with a 46.9% to 44.6% advantage.

In the race for governor, Democrat Jocelyn Benson held a 49.5% to 42.7% lead over Republican John James in the RealClearPolling average. The EPIC-MRA poll showed a closer race, with Benson leading James 45% to 41%.

Thousands Participate in Mackinac Bridge Walk

Approximately 34,000 people took part Monday morning in the 68th annual Mackinac Bridge Walk.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was among those participating in what was her final bridge walk as Michigan governor.
