Haley Stevens Endorses Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan Senate Race

In a surprising political development ahead of Tuesday's election, Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens has announced her endorsement of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers.

The endorsement comes after Stevens lost a contentious Democratic primary last August to Abdul El-Sayed.

Speaking with reporters Sunday in Detroit, Stevens said her decision was based on leadership and integrity. She acknowledged that some people would agree with her decision while others would disagree.

El-Sayed, speaking after a Democratic unity event that Stevens was not invited to attend, downplayed the endorsement and said he was focused on serving Michigan's residents rather than political endorsements.

The Michigan Democratic Party condemned Stevens' decision. The announcement also prompted significant fallout within her congressional office, with most of her staff resigning in protest, including her chief of staff.

According to AAA Michigan, the statewide average price for a gallon of gasoline has dropped 28 cents from the previous week to $4.55.

The Lansing-area average is slightly lower at $4.45 per gallon, making it the second-lowest among Michigan's metropolitan areas.
